Emma Kingston, Heathers The Musical, The Other Palace
Jess Young
So tell me a bit about, you just opened? Tell us about that?
Emma Kingston
It’s been madness. But all in a really, really good way. We sort of had our first preview last Thursday, we opened this Tuesday. And it’s been… I can’t even believe it’s Friday today. And sort of the second-ish week of performances. So, it’s been amazing.
Jess Young
Brilliant. How was it kind of being half you and half your character just now?
Emma Kingston
Yeah, interesting. I think the first time I put this outfit on, you can’t help but feel slightly empowered if you’re wearing a really fancy blazer.
[Laughter]
Rankin
Do you do power poses?
Emma Kingston
I could do power poses. Definitely in the show I’m giving it a few power poses. And I think it’s very different to me as a person. So it’s quite nice being able to…
Rankin
Do you do an accent, can you give it to us? Let’s do it! Dress me down, I like being dressed down.
[Laughter]
Emma Kingston
Meaning?
Rankin
Tell me off, give me roast. About my clothes, whatever.
Emma Kingston
Really? You came dressed like that, today? I thought you were supposed to be a fashion photographer.
[Laughter and applause]
Jess Young
Brilliant, well thank you so much, Emma!
Rankin
She wants to keep going!
Emma Kingston
Guys, I’m here all week!
[Laughter]
Rankin
Your accent’s brilliant. How do you do it?
Emma Kingston
I think I’m a bit obsessed with American pop culture, so I think… always growing up I would watch so many American sitcoms. I tell you, a lot of my American accent work came from watching American Idol. Because you’re just watching everyday normal people.
Rankin
Can you do different counties, different states?
Emma Kingston
Now you put me on the spot. I’d like to think so.
Rankin
Deep south?
Emma Kingston
Are you asking me to do that right now?
[Laughter]
Rankin
[In a Welsh accent] I can do Welsh.
[Laughter]
Emma Kingston
[In Southern USA accent] That’s okay, I mean if you want to come from the south of America you got to do a little bit better than that.
Rankin
I think I’m Tom Jones.
Emma Kingston
[In Welsh accent] My grandma’s from Wales, where abouts are you from?
[Laughter]
Rankin
Oh no! Oh okay, I’m done. That’s why I’m behind the camera! Thank you.
Emma Kingston
Thank you so much.
Rankin
Amazing.
Emma Kingston
Thank you.
[Applause]
